d design travel FUKUI EXHIBITION

at d47 MUSEUM

Nowadays, the individuality of each region is being lost in the urbanization of modern Japan. In this individuality, there is a long-established local way of life. To reaffirm its importance, we have published a travel guide for each of the 47 prefectures, called "d design travel. This exhibition celebrates the launch of the Fukui edition, the 33rd prefecture.

The "Kitamae Ship" that sailed on the Sea of Japan, the "Saba Highway" that connected the Imperial Court to Kyoto, the "Wakasa Bay" that is the gateway from the continent, and the "Hokuriku Shinkansen" that attracts a large number of tourists. Fukui Prefecture has developed its own unique culture by connecting with other prefectures and countries since ancient times. The added value such as "design" and "art" is the "standard" in Fukui. Fukui is no longer "simply amazing" (the slogan for the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen), but glamorous and progressive. And now that time is running parallel to Fukui, Fukui's standards will continue to be updated in the future. The characteristics of Fukui will change, but they will be handed down from generation to generation. This is the long-life "Fukui-ness".

At this exhibition site, you could enjoy the unique items of Fukui Prefecture, specially borrowed tools, daily necessities, and handicrafts that are actually used in the area.

Most of the items in this exhibition were found by the editor-in-chief during his research, and all of them have a history and development. The more you learn about them, the more interesting they become, and the longer they have been part of the fabric of Fukui Prefecture.

We hope that through the exhibits, visitors will learn about the "designs" that exist and are unique to Fukui Prefecture.

We also hope that this exhibition and the Fukui issue will be an opportunity for you to get to know Fukui Prefecture, and indeed all of Japan, and to feel the importance of the "individuality of each location".

d47 Shokudo chefs traveled around Fukui Prefecture. They have sampled local specialties and traditional dishes and interviewed local producers to develop set menus that are unique to the area.

The menu includes "Oroshi-soba" with spicy grated radish and broth, a rice ball with momi-wakame seaweed, "Abura-age (fried tofu)", spicy wheat gluten salad, pickled small sea bream, and “Heshiko”.

The "Fukui Teishoku" is a dish that incorporates “Hoonko”-sustaining Fukui’s food culture with faith, as learned from the Kitamae ship and the Saba Highway. Hope you enjoy it at d47 SHOKUDO!!
