The very first exhibition of d47 MUSEUM in Taiwan will be launched,

by showing stories of noodles from Japan’s 47 prefectures.

OR House opened in 1934. It was the most trendy department store in the area then. However, It has been closed for nearly 20 years. "OR", which is a brand deeply involved in cultural activities in the Hsinchu area, became the recent owner of this building. OR House was re-used and positioned as a living room of Hsinchu, focusing on “Cuisine” “Cooking” and “Social.”

Located in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT runs d47 which is a museum with a store, and a restaurant that functions as a platform to rediscover the character of Japan. It is a collection of the enduring local identities and flavors of each of the country's 47 prefectures. Second floor is a bistro where you can taste cuisine made with local ingredients. There is a kitchen on the third floor, where you could cook with friends and learn cooking. Fourth floor is the space with half of the outdoor and indoor venue. OR House is positioned as a living room of Hsinchu city. D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT is very happy to be the first guest and bring stories about Japanese noodles to them. OR House hosted and produced this exhibition while D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT planned and supervised the content.

D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT advocates working with local areas and connecting the world with each local area. "OR” aims to "make local people proud and win travelers’ love" through bookstores, cafes and B&B. Both of us pay a lot of attention to local cultural activities and we work on this exhibition together.

Get to know the noodles from Japan’s 47 prefectures in Taiwan

This exhibition, "Japan 47 Noodles" presents the local culture of Japan by showing the noodle packaging and stories. Visitors could learn about the food and culture of Japan's 47 prefectures. For example, the bottle gourd udon from Tochigi was an innovative invention to solve the declining sales of dried bottle gourd. Yamaguchi’s fried noodles on tiles are popular because tiles were widely used when houses were built there. Noodles are also a beloved cuisine in Taiwan. We believe people there can find stories that relate to their personal experiences and motivate them to learn more about Taiwanese noodles.

Visit the exhibition in the very exclusive venue in Taiwan

The exhibition is held on the fourth floor of the "OR House". The fourth floor was originally the owner's personal living space, with rooms for different functions. The interior design teams "II Design" and "Mizuiro Design" used simple, original and reusable materials to create an exhibition space that can accommodate a wide variety of exhibits. The design concept of the table came from the wooden frames used for air-dried products in Hsinchu. The exhibition space uses transparent wall materials to make the exhibits more integrated with the original appearance of the space. Holding this exhibition in a space that is full of historical and cultural background, we believe this venue will provide visitors in Taiwan a very different experience.
